If your stock has a date on it
Not imperfect — wrong. Follow it carefully for medicines, food, cosmetics or chemicals and you will still be writing stock off.

Why
A carton bought last week can expire months before one bought last year. Ship by receipt date and the short-dated cartons sit behind the others until they are worthless.
The part people skip
"240 units" cannot be picked by expiry, because the system has one quantity and no idea it is really four lots with four different dates. The lot needs its own number, its dates and its own quantity.
Not the same question
Batches answer "which lot is expiring?" — pharma, food, chemicals. Serials answer "exactly which unit did I sell?" — electronics and appliances, where the worry is warranty, not shelf life.
In BizGST Pro
Choose an item and a quantity and the FEFO screen works out the pick across your lots, earliest expiry first, showing the dates so the person on the floor can check it against the shelf. It is advisory — it does not move your stock.
The decision worth copying
If a pick would need lots already past their date, they appear with a warning rather than quietly dropping out. Offered so you can decide, not so you ship it — a system that hides inconvenient stock just gives you a comfortable number.
